Police arrested a 28-year-old Thunder Bay man they believe broke into a south-side youth centre Wednesday.

Thunder Bay Police Service officials say uniform officers were called to the New Hope Youth Centre at 1014 Victoria Avenue East just after 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. A nearby resident reported hearing sounds of breaking glass coming from the building.

Officers arrested a male suspect as he attempted to flee from the back of the building.

Police say they recovered property belonging to the youth centre at the scene.

The man was taken into custody after a brief struggle with officers.

The suspect is expected to appear in court Wednesday morning to face charges of break and enter, and obstructing police.
