A south-side resident arrived home Wednesday afternoon to find it had been broken into by an intoxicated intruder, reports city police.

Thunder Bay Police Service officials say the man returned to his home in the 100 block of South Harold Street just after 4 p.m. Wednesday. When he arrived he was confronted by an intruder who was already inside the home. The victim went to a neighbour’s home to call 911.

Officers arrived on scene and found footprints in the snow that led from the house to a fence. A search by the K-9 unit failed to find a suspect.

Police say the suspect is described as a Caucasian man who stood about five-feet-10-inches tall. The suspect wore a toque and was said to be noticeably intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Police also say they received a report that an intoxicated Caucasian man had approached a home nearby and offered to shovel the resident’s driveway for money. The resident declined and the man walked toward the home that was broken into.

Police are now asking for the public to report any suspicious activity in that area.
