THUNDER BAY - A man charged with one count of murder in connection to the death of a Toronto-area man in 2017 made a brief court appearance on Monday.
Michael Cleghorn was charged with second-degree murder in the death of 21-year-old Edmond Clovis in May 2017.
Cleghorn made a brief video court appearance on Monday, March 9, to schedule a future court date as his counsel awaits initial disclosure from Crown counsel. Disclosure documents are evidence collected by police and crown prosecutors in order to prosecute an individual's case.
Cleghorn was arrested in southern Ontario in November 2019 for the 2017 death of Clovis. He also faces a separate charge of attempted murder in connection to a shooting incident in Mississauga in August 2018.
Thunder Bay police had been seeking Cleghorn for the 2017 death of Clovis after he died in hospital after being found severely injured at a Marks Street address.
Cleghorn was also wanted by Toronto Police Service for alleged sexual assaults on a child between 2014 and 2015.
Cleghorn is currently in custody at the Toronto East Detention Centre.
He is scheduled to return to court on April 2.
