Man charged with arson in connection to Monday evening blaze

A 21-year-old man has been officially charged with arson in connection to a fire on Monday, Aug. 17.

THUNDER BAY - A Thunder Bay man has been charged with arson in connection to a Monday evening fire.

Thunder Bay police were initially dispatched to a bush area near the intersection of Island and Baffin Drive on Monday, Aug. 17 after receiving reports of an active fire suspected to be arson.

Trey Carlson, 21, appeared in court on Tuesday, Aug. 18, and was officially charged with one count of arson and failure to comply with a judicial release.

When officers arrived to a property situated along Island Drive they found a motorhome home fully engulfed by flames with a tent beside it. Officers learned a male suspect had lit the tent on fire which spread to the motorhome. Thunder Bay Fire Rescue also responded to extinguish the blaze.

The accused was arrested on Monday night in the 500-block of Hargrave Street just after 10 p.m.
