Man charged with possession of child pornography

THUNDER BAY – A 63-year-old Thunder Bay has been charged after police allegedly found child pornography on his computer.

Police say they were tipped off in January 2021 that a local Internet user was suspected of making available media files of child exploitation.

Upon confirmation the files were consistent with child pornography, a search warrant was issued for a residential address in the 100 block of Dorothy Street.

The cyber crime unit, along with Thunder Bay Police’s community oriented response and engagement team executed the search warrant and the suspect was taken into custody. Electronic devices were also seized at the time.

Mitchell Sameluk was charged was possession of child pornography, make available child pornography and accessing child pornography.

He appeared in court on Wednesday and was held in custody with a future appearance date.
