THUNDER BAY — A city man is facing multiple criminal charges after a lengthy standoff in a northside Thunder Bay residence.
Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Dufferin Street shortly after 8 pm Monday after receiving reports of a disturbance.
They arrived to find a man barricaded inside a residence.
Members of the TBPS Emergency Task Unit became involved in the ensuing standoff, and made numerous attempts to persuade the suspect to surrender.
Officers finally entered the residence just after one o'clock Tuesday morning, and eventually arrested him after he initially refused to comply with instructions.
The man was found to be in possession of suspected illicit substances, as well as more than $6,000 in cash.
The 38-year-old is charged with:
- pointing a firearm
- assault with a weapon
- possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- possession of a firearm contrary to five prohibition orders
- obstructing police
- multiple counts of possession of controlled drugs for trafficking
The accused appeared in court Tuesday and was remanded into custody pending a future court date.
