THUNDER BAY - A 52-year-old man is facing numerous charges dating back more than 20 years for allegedly procuring an underage girl for the purposes of prostitution.
Pierre Marier was arrested by the Thunder Bay Police Service on Thursday and appeared in a Thunder Bay Courtroom via video from the Balmoral police headquarters.
Several charges against Marier fall under procuring in the Criminal Code of Canada and include procuring an individual for prostitution;exercising control, direction or influence over the movements of a person to aid, abet, or compel them to engage in or carry on prostitution; procuring or soliciting an individual to have sexual intercourse with another individual; and living wholly or in part on the avails of prostitution of an individual under the age of 18.
Marier is also facing additional charges of sexual exploitation by way of inciting or inviting a young person to sexual touching and assault with a weapon.
All the charges are alleged to have taken place in Thunder Bay from incidents that date from between November 1998 and March 2000.
Co-accused, 63-year-old Dawn Proulx, was charged on Oct. 4, 2021 with three counts of procuring an individual for prostitution, one count of living off the avails of prostitution of an individual under 18, and one count of sexual exploitation. A warrant for a second co-accused has been issued.
Marier was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on Nov. 22.
