Man hospitalized after house fire in Westfort

A fire broke out around noon in a residence on Brock Street.

THUNDER BAY — Paramedics took one man to hospital for treatment of burns and smoke inhalation after a fire broke out Monday in a residence in Westfort.

The injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews responded to the alarm from the 200 block of Brock Street East around noon.

The injured person was believed to be the only occupant of the house.

The blaze left fire, smoke and water damage to the residence, with most of the damage occurring in the living room, where a picture window was left shattered.

There was no immediate word on how the fire started.
