KENORA, Ont. -- A 69-year-old man was injured after being attacked by a black bear while out for a morning walk.
Provincial police in Kenora on Thursday received a report of a bear attack on Rice Lake Road, west of Kenora.
The man was taken to hospital with injuries that are described as not life threatening.
Police said the bear believed to be responsible for the attack has been dispatched.
The Ministry of Natural Resources is continuing to investigate.
Earlier this month, a 62-year-old Minnesota woman was killed when she was mauled by a bear on Red Pine Island near Fort Frances.
Police are warning people to be extremely cautious when encountering bears. People are encouraged to call the Bear Wise telephone line (1-866-514-2327) for non-emergency situations, including if a bear moves through a backyard, checks garbage or pulls down a birdfeeder. Police urge the public to call 911 in an emergency, with examples listed including if a bear goes into a school yard, tries to enter a home, wanders into public gatherings, stalks people or kills livestock or pets.
