THUNDER BAY — A Thunder Bay man initially charged with second-degree murder has pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.
Randy Andrews, 25, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter charge in June and is expected to be sentenced later this year.
Andrews was first charged with second-degree murder following an investigation into the death of 63-year-old Richard Jung on the city’s south side nearly one year ago.
On the morning of Sept. 20, 2023, police responded to a residence on the 200 block of Robertson Street for reports of an assault.
A 63-year-old man, later identified as Jung was located at the residence with life-threatening injuries. Jung was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for treatment but succumbed to his injuries several days later.
Andrews was initially arrested and charged with aggravated assault, but the charge was upgraded to second-degree murder following Jung’s death.
Andrews remains in custody. A pre-sentence report has been completed, and a sentencing hearing will be scheduled for early October.
