City officials have lifted a four-day outdoor water ban after completing repairs to a Marina Park watermain.
City workers completed repairs to a 32-year-old rusted pipe joint Monday. Workers at Marina Park discovered the leak a couple of days ago and traced it back to its source, where they found water gushing from a crack in the 900-millimetre pressure pipe.
Corrosion on a large trunk watermain resulted in water spewing out of the pipe. Since then sewer and construction crews have been working to repair the line permanently.
The joint, part of the main trunk line that delivers drinking water to homes throughout the city, has likely been leaking for several months. As a result of the break, residents were asked to limit all non-essential water use until repairs are made.
The city has also lifted a fire ban, which stemmed from the water restrictions around the city.
