THUNDER BAY – An increase in respiratory-related illnesses has led officials at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre to remind the public about masking requirements at the hospital.
Masking is now required by all staff, professional staff, learners, volunteers and essential care partners and care partners when entering a patient room in all inpatient clinical units and in the emergency department.
Masking for essential care partners and care partners is now required in 1A inpatient units at all times, and when entering a patient room and within the 1A medicine and acute oncology units.
Masks are also required in all other inpatient units, when visiting in an inpatient’s room and when unable to maintain six feet of physical distancing within the unit. They are also required at all times and all areas in the emergency department, including the waiting areas.
Masks are available at all public entrances on the sanitizing stands.
Hospital officials also ask the public to make use of hand-sanitizer dispensers.
Masking requirements will continue to be monitored and the need to expand, if called for, will be base on infection levels.
