Thunder Bay – McDonalds is celebrating its 27th McHappy Day Wednesday in support of the Ronald McDonald House charities.
The annual charity event wasn’t possible to hold last year due to the pandemic, so, this year the company decided to give customers more ways to make an impact.
“So what we’ve done this time, is, 10 per cent of all the proceeds go to the charity, they get donated before it used to be just the Big Macs, the Happy Meals, and certain things like coffee, but now we’ve decided to just do 10 per cent and you know what, it’s for the children, it’s for a great cause,” said Nancy Varey, General Manager of the McDonald's on Arthur Street.
Not only is a portion of the proceeds from every purchase going to support Ronald McDonald Hose charities, a $2 donation, but guests can also purchase a McHappy Day Digital Heart in-restaurant and receive a "thank you" video from a Canadian athlete, celebrity, or RMHC family.
Guests can also donate $5 to add a pair of exclusive McHappy Day x Peace Collective socks to any Extra Value Meal order, while supplies last.
Local McDonald’s locations are already seeing a rise in customers who are coming in Wednesday to support the charities.
“Today there are a lot more people coming in, a lot of people know about McHappy day, they know and support for them, for the children,” said Sandra Peacock, swing manager.
“So, we have the five dollar pair of socks, we have the two dollar heart, and, if you want, you can donate anything, you can donate a dollar, you can donate a hundred. Come on down everybody!”
