SIOUX LOOKOUT, Ont. – Two men accused of forcible confinement after an alleged citizen’s arrest have been cleared.
OPP say on Aug. 29 officers were met outside the detachment by two men who advised them that they’d made a citizen’s arrest. The suspect of an alleged crime was then handed over to police.
But Wally Woods, 40, and Pat Clara, 55, found themselves accused of forcible confinement for their role in that so-called citizen’s arrest. Police at the time said the actions of the two men were not lawful.
The courts, however, appear to disagree with that.
On July 12 both Sioux Lookout men appeared and court and were acquitted of the charges they faced.
During a brief phone interview with tbnewswatc.com Thursday, Woods said he was just thankful that the accusation is no longer hanging over him.
“I’d like to thank everyone for their support,” he said. “I just want my friends to know that I am an innocent man.”
