SUDBURY, Ont. — Dozens of people are stuck underground at a mine in the Sudbury area.

CTV News reports that close to 40 people including 32 members of the Steelworkers union are involved in the incident at Vale's Totten Mine.

They became marooned Sunday afternoon after an incident that caused damage in the shaft, resulting in the conveyance for transporting workers being taken offline.

CTV quotes a Steelworkers spokesperson as saying food and medication has been delivered to the miners, and there are no injuries.

Vale issued a news release Monday afternoon stating that preparations are underway to get the workers out via a secondary egress ladder system, with the support of the company's mine rescue team.
