Mississauga man arrested on drug and weapons charges

Thirty-three-year-old man remains behind bars awaiting a Friday court date.

THUNDER BAY – A 33-year-old Mississauga man is in custody to face charges of alleged drug trafficking in Thunder Bay.

Ontario Provincial Police on Thursday said its provincial joint forces guns and gangs enforcement team made an arrest on Oct. 1 in the Cumberland Street area, following a months-long investigation.

Police allegedly found a handgun in the pocket of the accused, 85 grams of suspected fentanyl, 45 grams of suspected cocaine and the handgun.

The accused was remanded into custody and faces a litany of charges:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking - fentanyl
  • Unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a loaded restricted firearm
  • Possession of proceeds obtained by crime under $5,000

He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
