THUNDER BAY — A mistrial has been declared in the case of a man accused of first-degree murder.
Shane Cabral was one of four people arrested in relation to the death of 33-year-old Jordan Lapointe, whose remains were found inside his home in the 100 block of East Frederica Street on Oct. 3, 2021 after emergency crews responded to reports of a structural fire and explosion.
Thunder Bay police arrested Ronald Hill and Derek Turner, both of Thunder Bay, Michael Gomez, of Nepean, Ont., and Cabral, of Ottawa, and all four men were initially charged with first-degree murder.
A judge dismissed the jury in Cabral’s trial and declared a mistrial on Monday at the Thunder Bay Courthouse.
Cabral’s case will next be addressed in court on Nov. 25.
Earlier this year, Gomez pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and he was sentenced to life in prison without eligibility of parole for 18 years.
Turner pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in May of this year and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 16 years.
Hill pleaded guilty to forcible confinement and was sentenced to time served and two years probation, also in May.
None of the allegations against Cabral have been proven in court.
