THUNDER BAY – The Moose Lodge in Thunder Bay is closed until further notice.
A sign has been posted to the door of the Port Arthur Moose Lodge #947 stating the lodge is closed and a townhall and special meeting will be held on Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. for current members only.
Members will receive a letter in the mail about the upcoming meeting in the mail.
The news came as a surprise to Thunder Bay Pickleball Club head coach Jason Horychuk.
“I don’t know what’s going on,” he said. “Pickleball has been at the Moose for seven or eight years now. The club works with the Moose on putting together some programming and a lot of our members are Moose members.”
Horychuk said the hall being unavailable will affect the sport in many aspects, particularly the availability of daytime courts.
The Empty Bowls Thunder Bay fundraiser was also set for Sunday at the Moose hall but will now take place at Confederation College.
The event raises money for Shelter House and the Thunder Bay Food Bank.
In 2020, the Moose Lodge had started a GoFundMe campaign to help keep its doors open during the COVID-19 pandemic.
No one from the Moose Lodge could be reached for comment on Friday.
