Members of the Lappe Nordic Ski Team traveled to Lakefield, ON for the last Ontario Cup race of the season.

Variable weather made for challenging conditions, but the Thunder Bay skiers rose to challenge with excellent results as they get ready for the National Championships later in the month.

Saturday’s race was an interval start, classic technique event. Edgar Sarrazin earned a silver medal finishing second in the U18 M 7.5 kilometre race.

Brooke Ailey missed the podium by less than two seconds, finishing fourth in the U18 F 7.5 kilometre event.

In the U16 M race Cedric Martel earned another silver medal this season and was followed by teammate Mikkai Jones, finishing in 4th place with a personal best for the season.

Min Dobson had the best result of the day, winning the U16 F 7.5 km race, Tzipi Levkoe-Stephens had a solid race finishing 9th.

Sunday’s mass start freestyle race brought unusual conditions with temperatures over 10C. Sarrazin continued his success, finishing just off the podium in fourth place in his 11 kilometre race.

Ailey was able to improve her placing from Saturday to earn a bronze medal in her 11 kilometre race.

Martel fought hard finishing second again, just one second from the lead, with teammate Jones staying in the Top 5, in fifth.

Dobson once again asserted her dominance with a huge lead to win the U16 F 7.5 kilometre, and Levkoe-Stephens finished in 12th.

Skiers are now preparing for the final events of the season, including next weekend's Lappe Invitational, in Thunder Bay, followed by Canadian National Championships in Callahan Valley, BC.
