THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay’s Jack Moro is one of the city’s top up-and-coming golfers.

Now he’s got his first local major title to prove it.

Moro fired a one-under 71 on Monday at Whitewater Golf Course, finishing the two-day tournament with an even-par 144 total.

That was good for a two-shot triumph over three-time District Open champion Evan DeGrazia and Nathan Lepore, coming off a third-place finish at last month’s NextGen Prairie Golf Championship.

Jeff Hunter, the 2012 champion, was third, three off the pace, and Jeremy Kirk, who won the title in 2018 and 2021, rounded out the top five, another shot back.
