THUNDER BAY -- A 37-year-old woman has been charged after her four-month-old baby was left abandoned in the Academy Drive area during the long weekend.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers responded on Monday after receiving a call about a possible abandoned infant, who was subsequently found and taken to hospital for medical attention.
A nearby resident provided assistance to the infant until police arrived, police said in a Tuesday news release.
The infant's mother, who police are not identifying, has been charged with failure to provide the necessities of life and abandoning a child. The woman appeared in court on Tuesday.
Police on Wednesday said they had been in contact with a male witness they had earlier been encouraging to come forward.
