THUNDER BAY – A murder charge has been laid in a case dating back to last December.

Thunder Bay Police on Friday said they’ve laid a second-degree murder charge against 24-year-old Levi Michael Lawson, who was initially charged with indignity to a body after police located a body in the 800 block of Finlayson Street on Dec. 17, 2024.

Police later confirmed the victim in the case to be 41-year-old Deborah Anishinabie, who was the subject of a missing persons alert.

Lawson appeared in court on Friday and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.

It brings the total number of confirmed homicide in Thunder Bay last year to seven, one more than occurred in 2023.
