Murder charge withdrawn against youth in shooting death of Conrad Bannon

The 17-year-old youth was first arrested in Cambridge, Ont. and charged with first-degree murder but at the request of the Crown, the charge has been withdrawn

THUNDER BAY - A Cambridge, Ont. youth arrested in connection to the November 2021 shooting death of Conrad Bannon is no longer facing murder or weapons charges.

The 17-year-old youth, who cannot be named in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, appeared before Justice Danalynn MacKinnon on Thursday in a Thunder Bay Courtroom.

The youth was first arrested by the Waterloo Regional Police in Cambridge on Jan. 18, 2022 and charged with first-degree murder and seven weapons related offences in connection to the shooting death of 31-year-old Bannon.

Bannon was found by first responders in an apartment complex on the 400 block of Amelia Street in the early morning hours of Nov. 4, 2021 with injuries consistent with a shooting and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The youth was identified as a suspect and a Canada-wide warrant was issued for the youth’s arrest.

During the youth’s appearance on Thursday, Crown attorney Danielle Wood requested that all charges be withdrawn. Justice MacKinnon agreed to the request.

The youth is still facing four weapons charges and a breach of probation charge from a May 6, 2021 incident. That matter will return to court in June 2022.

No other arrests have been made in connection to the shooting death of Bannon.
