MURILLO -- Organizers overseeing logistical support for the RCMP Musical Ride's summer performance at Murillo's fairgrounds say they'll need to raise about $30,000 for the two-day event.

The RCMP doesn't charge hosts a fee when the Musical Ride is on tour, but host sites are required to supply feed and well-equipped stalls for the horses, Murillo Fair board president Lindsey Kosolowski said on Monday.

"All of that has to be lined up, including security and washroom facilities," Kosolowski said. "So we'll be looking for sponsors."

The performances at Murillo's fairgrounds are set for July 13-14.

"Up to 32 riders, who are all police officers, and their horses, perform intricate formations and drills set to music, lasting about 30 minutes," says an RCMP Ride program backgrounder.

"These movements demand the utmost control, timing, and co-ordination."

The last time the Ride performed in Murillo was about 10 years ago. The Murillo Fair is a separate event usually held during the third weekend in August.

In 2024, the Musical Ride is to tour only in Ontario and Manitoba.

"It travels to each province once every four years to ensure as many Canadians as possible can experience this spectacle," a program backgrounder said.

The "performances help raise thousands of dollars for local charities and non-profit groups," it added.

In-between performances, spectators are often given opportunities to speak to program riders.
