THUNDER BAY — A summertime feature at Centennial Park is set to be back in service this weekend after a temporary closure earlier this year.

City officials said the Muskeg Express will resume operations beginning on Saturday, after an issue with a new wheel recently installed on the train led to a derailment in July

Nobody was injured in the incident, which marked the second time in the past three years it was taken out of service due to operational issues.

City officials said all inspections, testing and required repairs have been completed. The Technical Standards and Safety Authority has approved the ride for operation.

“The Muskeg Express is a popular summer attraction and we are happy to have the train ride back in operation,” said city parks and open spaces manager Cory Halvorsen. “There’s still a few weeks left in the season and we encourage everyone to get out for a ride.”

The ride will operate Wednesday through Sunday until Sept. 3, but will be open for its final day of the year on the Labour Day Monday.
