NAPS seizes methamphetamine in Fort Albany

NAPS police arrest and charge three Fort Albany First Nation residents following multiple search warrants.

FORT ALBANY, Ont. – Three Fort Albany First Nation residents are facing drug trafficking charges after police execute multiple search warrants.

Nishawbe Aski Police Intelligence Unit, the NAPS Drug Enforcement Unit, The NAPS Emergency Response Team and the Fort Albany Uniform Detachment Members executed multiple search warrants in Fort Albany First Nation, located 525 kilometres north of Timmins, on June 21.

According to a release, these warrants were executed as part of an ongoing investigation that resulted in a large seizure of methamphetamine and Canadian currency.

Police seized 3,279.5 methamphetamine pills, 25.4 grams of methamphetamine powder and $21,295 in Canadian currency.

The total northern street value of the seizure is approximately $155,861.

As a result of the investigation, Robin Sutherland, 36, and Sharon Knapaysweet, 28, of Fort Albany First Nation were arrested and charged with possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Police also arrested and charged Margaret Wiliams, 32, of Fort Albany First Nation with possession of  schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

All three individuals were released on conditions and will appear in court on Oct. 21 in Fort Albany.
