NDP questions premier on disaster area declaration

When it comes to relief funding, Ontario’s NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says flood victims in Thunder Bay deserve answers.

When it comes to relief funding, Ontario’s NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says flood victims in Thunder Bay deserve answers.

Horwath repeatedly asked Premier Dalton McGuinty at Queens Park Tuesday about when the city would receive disaster area declaration and provincial relief dollars.

“The people of Thunder Bay have pulled together to make the best out of a very bad situation,” the NDP leader said.

“But they need a helping hand immediately from the province. There is no question that Thunder Bay is a disaster area.”

McGuinty is responded directly to the questions.

“We are, at this point in time, working with the community,” the premier said.

“Mayor (Keith Hobbs) placed a great deal of emphasis on a particular water treatment plant that represents a real challenge for them financially, and we will work with the community to ensure they get the support they need.”
