NDP's Archer apologizes for old post suggesting Wynne should be jailed

NDP candidate in Kenora-Rainy River says he deleted the post some time ago, adding he should have used more appropriate words.

KENORA – Kenora-Rainy River NDP hopeful Glen Archer has issued an apology for a three-year-old Facebook post suggesting Premier Kathleen Wynne should be behind bars.

“I apologize unreservedly for the language I used in a 2015 social media post being circulated by the Liberal Party this morning. I removed this post some time ago. After years of Liberals ignoring northwest Ontarians, my frustration spilled over, and I should have used more appropriate words,” Archer said Friday in a statement issued by the party.

Archer on March 15, 2015 shared a meme of two police officers escorting a photo-shopped image of Wynne being led away in handcuffs, calling it an “excellent commentary on the sad state that the Wynne government has created, blowing taxpayer money like crazy putting it in the pockets of her friends, scandal after scandal. She should be in prison. Resign at least!”

Liberal party officials slammed NDP Leader Andrea Horwath for being quick to condemn controversial rhetoric from the Conservative camp, but failing to speak up when it involves her own candidates.
