THUNDER BAY — A second organization providing health care services in Thunder Bay has announced the layoff of staff while attributing the move to restructuring.

ParaMed, a provider of home health care services in the city for over 40 years, recently closed its coordination office in the city.

According to a spokesperson, 17 members of the staff as well as two managers were impacted by what he described as the consolidation of administrative operations within the company.

"The Thunder Bay office will now serve as the new clinical hub for our frontline team members and supervisors, as well as our recruiting, onboarding and education teams, and will also include a new advanced Skills Lab and learning centre."

The spokesperson told Newswatch client and patient care have not been affected in any way by the changes.

"We remain fully committed to providing exceptional care to our patients, and will continue to look for opportunities to develop and expand our services in the region."

ParaMed is owned by Markham-based Extendicare.

Another provider, SE Health, recently announced a plan to close down most of its Thunder Bay operations by mid-January, 2025 due to restructuring.

According to staff members, the not-for-profit organization gave layoff notices to more than 60 people.
