A single mother of two says she’s angry that no one will come to help her clean up the needles found spread out across her backyard.

Amanda Deley, 28, has lived on Picton Avenue with her two children for about four years. It hasn’t been an easy stay. She said she sees gangs fighting, children shooting paintball pellets at houses and drug addicts.

But when her two children found various needles spread out across her backyard, she decided enough was enough.

“I’m very angry because I have two children who are out here playing with them,” Deley told Tbnewswatch.com on Saturday.

“I called everywhere that I could call and nobody will come because it is the weekend. I called the police and they said it is my responsibility. They said it is private property. It is Thunder Bay Housing and housing is closed on the weekend. Therefor is it my responsibility to clean it up.”

The area received a yellow needle container but was placed behind another neighbour’s house and nearly buried under boxes and hockey nets. Deley said in the past it was up to her and her neighbours to pick up the needles themselves.

This time however, she said she wasn’t sure she would be willing to put her health at risk to pick up a needle from her yard.

“I don’t know what I am going to do. I don’t feel this is my responsibility to clean it and I don’t think I should get hurt cleaning it,” she said. “Then again if someone’s kid comes into my yard and gets pricked by (a needle) I’m the one that’s going to be in trouble.”
