THUNDER BAY — The city has received an application to build Thunder Bay's newest hotel on Oliver Road, between Golf Links Road and the Thunder Bay Expressway.
Vacant land at the intersection of Oliver Road and Burwood Road has already been cleared.
Thunder Bay's building services office recently received paperwork from Manitoba-based Genesis Hospitality seeking to construct a six-storey, 129-unit hotel at a cost of $32 million.
A spokesperson for the company did not respond to a request from TBnewswatch for more information about the project, including timing and which hotel brand would occupy the building.
Genesis Hospitality has a history in Thunder Bay, as it previously operated the Victoria Inn Hotel and Convention Centre, which it sold earlier this year to Naagaaniiyang Limited Partnership.
In 2021, another company announced plans to develop vacant land in the same vicinity as the new Genesis project, but on the opposite side of Oliver Road.
Quality Inn and Suites was supposed to locate there, but the development has not proceeded.
