THUNDER BAY — Site preparation has begun for a new development at County Fair Mall.
A new bank building and a gas bar, retail store and restaurant will be constructed on the East Avenue side of the mall property.
According to the applications for building permits that were approved by the City of Thunder Bay, the estimated value of the projects is $3.5 million.
Last year, the Bank of Montreal announced plans to close two existing branches and merge them at a new location at County Fair.
It said the new branch would open in 2022.
The two projects at 136 and 140 East Avenue are going up on the former site of a Beaver Lumber/Home Building Centre location.
Since that store was demolished, cross-country truckers have used the property to park their rigs during pit stops.
A spokesperson for the mall owner, Toronto-based Goldmanco, could not immediately be reached for comment.
