City police have a storage facility full of evidence for court cases.
So the Thunder Bay Police Service has adopted a new barcode system for better tracking.
“Those items are disposed of, when possible, but it many cases they have to be held for many years because of ongoing criminal trials and other investigations,” he said during an interview with CKPR Radio.
“So, it is creating a storage issue for us and it is something that we are in the process of addressing.”
The old system simply used tags. Police spokesman Chris Adams said the new system will speed up the process.
“We will be able to use a barcode and a scanner,” Adams added. “What that allows us to do is speed up the process of tracking it.”
