New fires burning

New fires continue to burn in this region as Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources reported nine new fires in the past 24 hours. There are now 76 of the province’s 81 fires burning in Northwestern Ontario.

New fires continue to burn in this region as Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources reported nine new fires in the past 24 hours.

There are now 76 of the province’s 81 fires burning in Northwestern Ontario. Those fires have burned about 114,877 hectares of land.

The Red Lake area has 39 fires currently burning, while the Sioux Lookout District has 32 reported so far.

There is one fire burning in the Dryden District while another four are burning in the Nipigon area.

The MNR reports that dry and warm weather is expected to continue in the region this week.

Forest fire hazards are still extreme in the far North and moderate in the rest of the region.

There have been 422 fires in the province so far this summer.
