THUNDER BAY - The City of Thunder Bay has approved additional funding to continue its residential drainage rebate program in 2017.
The rebate is being offered by the City of Thunder Bay for installing flood prevention measures and drainage improvements such as sump pumps and sewer backwater prevention valves. Homeowners who want to take advantage of the Residential Drainage Rebate Program will have until November 30, 2017 to submit their applications for improvements to household drainage completed since January 2013. EcoSuperior is delivering the program that has made significant improvements to household drainage in Thunder Bay.
Rebates are available for 50 per cent of the invoiced costs up to $1750 for the installation of a sewage backflow prevention valve, 50% of the invoiced costs up to $1500 for sump pump/leaching pit installation and $500 for disconnection of the weeping tile system from the City of Thunder Bay sanitary sewer. Residences, not-for-profit organizations and churches within the City of Thunder Bay are eligible for the rebate provided all taxes and water bills are up-to-date. Additional funding is available for low-income seniors and people with disabilities.
“About 540 applications have been processed since the program began, with the average rebate being approximately $1350,” says Jamie Saunders, Drainage Rebate Coordinator for EcoSuperior. “The total value of rebate applications processed to date is $700,000. That total represents the complete amount of funds initially allotted by the City of Thunder Bay after the rainfall event in May 2012.”
“It’s a very easy application process,” says Saunders. “Just fill out the application form, send it to us along with a copy of the associated receipts, plumbing permit and inspection report. We will schedule a home visit to confirm the work, then process the rebate provided the paperwork is in order.”
Application forms are available at EcoSuperior (562 Red River Road at Hill Street) as well as at the City’s Building Services Division office, 2nd Floor, Victoriaville Civic Centre, or can be downloaded at www.ecosuperior.org.
