THUNDER BAY — A judge who's previously served in eastern Ontario is transferring to Thunder Bay.
The office of Chief Justice Sharon Nicklas of the Ontario Court of Justice has confirmed that Justice Michael March will begin work in the city in January.
He is replacing Justice Joyce Elder who's retired.
Judge March was appointed to the bench in 2016, and has spent the past eight years in the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
Prior that, he practised criminal law, mostly in Renfrew County, for 21 years.
When he was named a judge, the Ministry of the Attorney General described him as a a long-time advocate for vulnerable people, who frequently acted on a pro bono basis for clients unable to afford a lawyer.
He had also lent his time and expertise to an organization dedicated to sponsoring Syrian refugees and helping them come to Canada.
