New Thunder Bay restaurant offers many options

The Eatery 61 is located at 1725 Highway 61.

THUNDER BAY -- A new restaurant has opened on Highway 61.

The Eatery 61 opened on Friday beside the Bean and Olive Coffee Bar, offering breakfast, burgers, sandwiches, soups, and more.

They even have gluten-free and vegan options.

One of the owners, Vimal Vijayakumar, said many customers have stopped by since they opened.

“People are learning about this place and coming in to see what we have,” he said.

With several different sandwiches and burgers including falafel or butter chicken, fries, onion rings, and poutine – there is definitely something for everyone.

If you don’t like burgers or sandwiches, Eatery 61 also has appetizers, salads, and plenty of breakfast options, including a veggie omelet, an everything omelet, and a salmon benedict that sounds incredible.

Vijayakumar is co-owner of the takeout restaurant, which offers some seating, with Arun Purushothaman.

They both have previous experience as cooks in Thunder Bay.

"I was a chef at Thyme and Arun is a self-taught chef,” Vijayakumar said.

Purushothaman ran an Indian cuisine take-out business before they opened Eatery 61.

Both co-owners said they truly enjoy cooking, which is why they decided to open their own restaurant.

For Valentine’s Day, Eatery 61 has a special offer for couples – free dessert with every order.

The Eatery 61 is located at 1725 Highway 61.

It’s open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday to Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, although they hope to extend those hours in the near future.

For more information visit the Eatery 61 Facebook page or call the restaurant at (807) 577-8308.
