THUNDER BAY — Five cases of COVID-19 that resulted from household contact are among the nine new cases reported Wednesday by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.
With seven previous cases resolved since Tuesday, the district's active case count increased by two to reach 66.
One of the new cases is due to travel outside Northwestern Ontario, while the remaining three are under investigation.
All nine cases involve residents of the city of Thunder Bay or immediate surrounding communities.
Two district residents are receiving treatment for COVID-19 in hospital, including one in intensive care.
Ontario reported 1,808 new cases on Wednesday, a big increase from the 1,429 reported Tuesday.
