No estimated reopening date for Thunder Bay Courthouse, says ministry

Court counter services will be operational at the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee Office on 189 Red River Road beginning Tuesday, Oct. 13, according to a spokesperson with the Ministry of the Attorney General.

THUNDER BAY - A spokesperson with the Ministry of the Attorney General says there is no estimated date as to when the Thunder Bay Courthouse could reopen again after a Sunday fire left the building with substantial water damage.

The courthouse remained closed this week while cleanup and repairs took place. Emergency crews responded to 125 Brodie Street after a fire broke out in the main electrical room on the seventh floor on Sunday, Oct. 4 at approximately 5 p.m.

On Friday, Oct. 9, Brian Gray, a spokesperson with the ministry said the Superior Court of Justice and Ontario Court of Justice will continue to operate remotely and counter services will be available to the public on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee Office at 189 Red River Road.

"At this time, there is no reopening date for 125 Brodie Street North," Gray said in an emailed statement.
