THUNDER BAY -- Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews say an Amelia Streeet home suffered heavy smoke and fire damage following a fire that broke out on Thursday.

According to a release, heavy smoke was showing from the front of the home, located in the 200 block of the Westfort street. Firefighters quickly embarked on a transitional attack and entered the front door of the structure. The crew quickly knocked down the fire, which they determined was in the rear of the home.

A primary search of the home showed it to be empty at the time of the fire. TBFR later learned the residents were able to exit the home before they arrived on scene.

A total of five pumpers and an aerial ladder truck responded to the call.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
