No reported injuries in Kenora hotel fire

20 to 30 guests, and Grey Cup, escape fire unscathed

KENORA, Ont. –There are no reported injuries after a Kenora hotel fire Friday. The city reports that everyone inside the Clarion Lakeside Inn yesterday afternoon when the fire broke out is safe, and guests have been set up with alternate accommodations.

The blaze started around 3:30 p.m., sending heavy smoke through parts of the downtown. Kenora Online reports that Kenora fire services responded with close to 30 personnel and at least six trucks. Some of the smoke came from a vehicle in the hotel’s parking lot which also caught fire.

The CFL’s Grey Cup trophy is reported to have been in the hotel with Winnipeg Blue Bombers players at the time the fire broke out. The players were in town touring the trophy with plans for a viewing on Saturday.

The hotel is expected to be closed for at least several days. There were 20 to 30 guests in the hotel when the fire broke out.
