NOLALU – About 650 property owners in Nolalu may find out later this month if they'll pay a bit more over the next year for recreation and fire-protection services.

The Local Services Board of Nolalu is proposing to raise its annual levy by $15. The board is to consider the proposed increase at its Nov. 26 meeting.

Property owners currently pay $205 per year just for the two services the board administers. Nolalu has a volunteer fire department which oversees two fire halls.

Nolalu residents also pay property taxes, but those are paid separately to the province. Property owners also pay separately for road maintenance, as well as tipping fees at provincial landfills.

It's common for Ontario residents who are not part of organized municipalities to obtain services urban dwellers take for granted through various volunteer boards.

Though the boards are run by volunteers, they are still subject to provincial regulations.

The Nov. 26 meeting is to take place at the Nolalu Community Centre at 7:30 p.m.
