One of the major players in the Ring of Fire development is delaying the release of its feasibility study.
Officials with Noront Resources say they want to evaluate recent announcements by Cliffs Natural Resources and the province. Noront had been working on a feasibility study for its deposit containing copper and nickel.
Company officials added that they believe their project could create as many as 1,400 jobs in the construction and production phase. Chief Operating Officer Paul Semple said the feasibility study is key to the financing of the project.
Noront was proposing an east-to-west, all-season road that would run from Pickle Lake to the Ring of Fire area.
But the company believes the province has indicated it is will to make a commitment to the north-south road proposed by Cliffs.
That decision is a major factor in the delay.
Semple said the study will be delayed by a month or two, but other timelines remain firm, including the company's plan to be in production in early 2016.
