THUNDER BAY – One person was taken to hospital after a fire at a north side residence on Sunday evening.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue was dispatched to a structure fire around 8 p.m. on Sunday, the agency reported in a release.

After the first arriving unit on scene reported smoke coming from a second floor window, an additional alarm was called to bring further resources to the scene.

An initial pumper crew was able to quickly bring the fire under control using a 45 millimetre attack line, contained it the contents of one room and preventing it from spreading to the structural components of the home.

Multiple units remained on scene to overhaul the involved areas to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.

One person was taken to hospital by paramedics with Superior North EMS for injuries sustained as a result of the fire, the TBFR reported. That person was released the following morning, the TBFR said, but could not comment on the extent of their injuries.

The TBFR reminds the public of the importance of working smoke alarms on all levels of the home and carbon monoxide alarms outside pf sleeping areas.
