Northern Ontario Senior Curling Championship to be held in Thunder Bay

Curling season will end this week with the Northern Ontario Curling Championships.

THUNDER BAY -- Northern Ontario Senior Curling Championships will take place at the Port Arthur Curling Club on Wednesday.

The provincial championship for curlers age 50-plus got underway on Wednesday with the first draw at 2 p.m., with the competition running through the weekend with finals Saturday (women) and Sunday (men).

Three past provincial champions are back.  Mike Desilets, Al Hackner and Rob Gordon of Sudbury are among the eight men’s teams competing, while the Stacey Szajewski of Kenora is back as the defending champs in the four-rink women’s draw with Kim Beaudry of Fort Frances, a past champion.

This year’s teams are as follows:

  • Beaudry from Fort Frances
  • Blachette from Capreol
  • Desilets from Kakabeka Falls
  • Gordon Sudbury
  • Hackner from Fort William
  • Harnden from Sault Ste. Marie
  • Hopson from McIntrye
  • Larocque from Fort William
  • Rosengren from Port Arthur
  • Strelezki from Copper Cliff
  • Szajiewski from Keewatin
