ROCHESTER, Minnesota — The Northwoods League is working to improve security after a breach in its league-wide online ticketing system this summer.
The baseball league says it discovered on July 17 that the ticket system was the victim of a data intrusion by an unknown actor.
The breach potentially impacted fans of every team, including the Thunder Bay Border Cats.
"As a result of the incident, some of our customers' personal information was compromised," deputy commissioner Tina Coil said in a statement to TBnewswatch from the league headquarters Thursday.
"We noticed the compromise and started investigating immediately. We took steps to address this incident promptly after it was discovered, and at this time there is no evidence to suggest that any further compromise has occurred."
Coil said the league is striving to protect the organization from any further intrusions and is implementing additional safeguards to improve data security in its customer ticketing system.
"Any customer we believed to have been impacted by this incident was notified directly via letter what happened, what we are doing, and what they can do to help monitor and protect their information," she said.
The letter included the number for a help line that customers can call if they have questions that aren't addressed in the letter.
