THUNDER BAY — A Thunder Bay police officer charged with theft is expected to make a plea during his next court appearance.

Const. Peter Ritchie, of the Thunder Bay Police Service, was charged with theft of property not exceeding $5,000 and breach of trust on Oct. 10, 2024.

The charges relate to a single complainant and the incident occurred on July 18, 2024.

Ritchie’s lawyer, Pamela Machado, appeared virtually in a Thunder Bay courtroom on Thursday and said the case has been the subject of two Crown pre-trials and is scheduled for a plea on May 7.

It was not said to which charge or charges Ritchie may plead.

The Thunder Bay Police Service has previously said Ritchie was suspended with pay at the time he was charged.

None of the allegations against the accused have been proven in court.
