Target officials say they can guarantee local customers will have the same shopping experience in this city as they would in the U.S.
Media were given a sneak peek into the recently renovated store in the Intercity Shopping Centre Monday. Target purchased the former Zellers store as part of an expansion into Canada. The company plans to open 20 stores across the country on Tuesday.
The new store featured a number of products normally found south of the border including Nate Berkus, Pixi makeup, Market Pantry and Up & Up. The store also houses a Starbucks, a pharmacy and grocery section.
The store will also be offering prices on par with those found in the United States on some products.
Target spokeswoman Lisa Gibson said they wanted to make sure that their products were available both in the United States and in Canada.
“For us it is always about bringing in unique products so there’s always something new. Also we want to make sure we’re competitively priced.”
Gibson said adapting the packaging to meet the language laws in Canada was a big challenge but she added that all the products they wanted to bring up North didn’t get held up.
The store is employing about 170 people.
“Our goal really was to make sure that we offered up the opportunity for any Zellers employee who were interested in working here. We do have a lot of our team already in place but we’re looking for good talent.”
Target officially opens its doors at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
