On your mark, get set, quack!: Our Kids Count planning rubber duck race

Kam River Ultimate Duck Race launches sales of ducks for it's fall race to raise money for a local charity

THUNDER BAY — Ducks will be lining up and ready to race down the Kaministiquia River come the fall.

On Wednesday, the Kam River Ultimate Duck Race campaign was launched by selling ducks that will race along the river on Sept. 23. Partnering with the Kam River Fighting Walleye, Our Kids Count will have the ducks for sale all summer long,

Money from the fundraising campaign will support the charity, said Our Kids Count executive director Jackie Knough.

"We have 4,000 ducks, and we are going to be out in the community all summer long," Knough said. "[Our Kids Count] is a grassroots organization, and we really rely on donations and fundraising opportunities. This money is going to go directly into our programs to support families in need."

Each duck entry costs $20 each, or they can be purchased for a deal with six ducks for $100.

The person who buys the first duck to cross the finish line will win $10,000. The second prize winner will walk away with $5,000, while third and fourth place scoops up $2,500.
