One person injured in school bus collision

A bus carrying students from Kakabeka Falls Public School and Westgate CVI overturned in a ditch on a slippery road.

THUNDER BAY — A school bus hit a patch of ice and overturned in a ditch in a rural area outside Thunder Bay on Monday afternoon.

The Lakehead District School Board reported that one person suffered a minor injury in the incident, which occurred around 3:25 pm.

Twelve students were on the Kakabeka Falls Public School and Westgate CVI bus IR507 at the time.

In a social media post, the school board said the incident happened as the driver was attempting to turn from Ellis Road onto Centre Road, in the Kaministiquia area.

Police were on the scene, and were to release the students to their parents, or for transportation on an alternate bus.

Student Transportation Services of Thunder Bay was to notify any parents who had not yet been contacted.
